Formatting runs entirely in your browser. Major clauses each start a new line, SELECT fields and WHERE conditions are listed one per line with a hanging indent, JOINs are indented after FROM, and subqueries are indented one level. Strings, quoted identifiers, backticks, and comments are preserved (or stripped, if you choose).
